Power

What drives you? Motivates you? Is it money, power, respect, family, friends, love, hatred? Power is an interesting thing. One of the definitions of power is “the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events.” In this day and age, in my opinion, news media outlets have this type of power because they can direct where viewer attention flows for those tuning in. We can think the world is ending because they(news) have us looking that way. Internet search engines such as google are very similiar. They direct you in a way that all the information the system has built up about you thinks you should go. Ultimately we all have the power of choice, just like the characters in The Magical Mermaid and the Moon, the choice to either believe everything we hear and see in the newspapers and on television. Or the choice to go with the first thing that pops up your google search engine. These are just a couple of the thousands of choices we make everyday. Just like the characters in this unique story, we are given the choice to live our lives the best ways we feel fit. Where does your power come from? Does it come from something outside of yourself, such as wealth, status, approval? This was a question I pondered for years until I learned that my real power comes from within. I feel it is very important to align with who you are as a human being. We are thrown into a huge world of rules and values that already exist outside of ourselves when we are born. We try and survive the younger years and are taught to do good in school, get a job, work hard, make a family, and work until you can retire and then begin really living, but by then we are too tired. Then we judge anyone doing something outside of this societal norm. Power comes in choosing to live a life unique to ourselves, but in order to do that we must tear down all the walls and shed all of the things that are not who we are. This is a powerful process because it involves letting go of certain people, places, and things that do not fit your personal energy. This is where I regained my power. This is an important lesson throughout this entire story. I challenge all of my readers to tune in to who you really are. To listen to what drives you and if you actually feel good about it. I challenge you to find the power inside that has always been there. You won’t regret it!
