Who is family to you? Is it your blood relatives? Is it your college alumni, or your co workers? Is it a best friend/s? What makes someone family? There are so many different ideas surrounding what family really is and how it’s truly supposed to look. Only you ultimately know who or what you consider family? In this fairy tale the magical mermaids mother and father embrace their entire kingdom as their family. To them everyone is equal, everyone deserves the same level of love and life.
With so much division in our world today it can be hard to imagine a place where everyone embraces one another and cares for each others well being, but it can be done. We could all wake up tomorrow and decide that no matter what differences we have that ultimately we are all human beings, and all just trying to survive a world/planet we continue to learn more and more about each day.
I was lucky enough in this life to be the second oldest out of six kids and have two parents who cared. They were my family growing up and they remain my family but I have also added people that I have connected with in my life journey along the way. I also can say I have a greater appreciation for work family where I have met some spectacular people. We spend a lot of time at our work places, sometimes more than with your actual family or friends. This is a reason why I feel it is crucial for you to find a job that you love or at least enjoy 75 percent of the time. The people you work with, or work out with, or do common things together with can become your family. Family is about feeling safe and secure to be who you really are. Family is about building, about growing, about thriving. Family to me is giving and receiving kindness, support, trust, respect, love. We all have to power to choose who we call family. Who or what is family to you?
