Inner child. What does this phrase mean to you? What comes to mind? I am sure by now you have heard this phrasing and I have no doubt many of you are diving into working on this aspect of you. I believe, simply put, we are all children of Earth. Yes, we can say children of the universe, and Infinity and beyond, but for the purpose of this blog I am keeping it contained to Earth.
We all come into this life an innocent child. Dependent upon the world, resources, and other human beings around us. We absorb so much information. We are given a name. Told we are a race, and sex, and in many cases a religion, a long with so much more. We learn letters, numbers, words, definitions, labels, safety, and everything else from those around us. We learn how to communicate our needs but also how to survive when those needs are not met or even acknowledged.
Inside of all of us lives this child. A child that gets curious, asks questions, gets excited, and even scared at times. A child learning more and more about this divine experience called life all around us on planet Earth. One of my favorite quotes is “All I know is that I know nothing”. This is such a deep statement to me because at the end of the day, we all really only know a sliver of what really is happening here on Earth and everywhere else in existence.
Everyday more knowledge is uncovered and our view on life continues to adjust. Change is the one thing that remains constant in life. Our bodies grow. Our experiences shift with age and we continue to move through human existence as best we can. Give yourself grace. None of this is easy.
A problem arises when we stop being curious and asking questions. When we stop feeling, and hearing our inner child. This typically happens, because let’s face it most times all of us were told to grow up. To be mature, to make a plan for life, and all of us have experienced some type of trauma as a child of Earth. All these things we were taught were passed down out of survival. We have survived time and time again. I personally say no more. The moment has come for us to live. To turn to that inner child and say you’re safe and free to experience this playground of Earth.
Our inner child is magic. Our inner child is free. Our inner child is safe. I have had the privilege of being apart of different children’s lives after I became an adult and at times it took me awhile to see how much of a gift it was. We have children and want to keep them safe. To help them survive but I ask, what about thrive? To live? To be love and be the magic that they are meant to be?
Rebuilding a relationship with my inner child has been the most delicate, divine, powerful thing I have ever done for myself. I ask you reader. Do you speak to the child in you? Do you let her or him out to play? When you’re triggered do you see how it stems to this child who was scared or uncertain?
My inner child sings like the magical Mermaid every time I look to the stars and watch the moon move through its phases. My inner child is in awe of Earth and nature and how it changes. My inner child giggles when I spill or break something now. If you have children around you I urge you to let them be your teachers as much as you are theirs.
I challenge you to sit in silence and breathe life back into your inner child. It will be so worth it. Thank you for stopping by.
